Ethan Slater and Betsy Wolfe to Join Off-Broadway Cast of ‘Little Shop of Horrors’

Ethan Slater and Betsy Wolfe will step into the leading roles of Seymour and Audrey in the long-running Off-Broadway revival of “Little Shop of Horrors” later this summer.

Producers announced that Slater and Wolfe will begin performances on July 21 at the Westside Theatre, taking over from current stars Jordan Fisher and Nikki M. James. Fisher and James are scheduled to give their final performances on July 19.

For Slater, the engagement marks a return to musical theater in New York following his appearance in the 2023 Broadway revival of “Spamalot.” More recently, he appeared Off-Broadway in “Marcel on the Train,” a new play he co-created with Marshall Pailet. 

Wolfe joins the production after starring as Madeline Ashton in Broadway’s “Death Becomes Her.” She assumed the role after its original performer, Megan Hilty. Over the course of her career, Wolfe has built an extensive Broadway résumé that includes appearances in “Waitress,” “Falsettos,” “& Juliet,” “Bullets Over Broadway,” “The Mystery of Edwin Drood,” and “Everyday Rapture.”

The pair will join an established company that currently features Claybourne Elder as dentist Dr. Orin Scrivello D.D.S., Tony Award nominee Reg Rogers as Mushnik, Christian McQueen as the voice of Audrey II, Christine Wanda as Ronnette, Savannah Lee Birdsong as Crystal, and Morgan Ashley Bryant as Chiffon. 

The ensemble also includes Teddy Yudain, Weston Chandler Long, Mecca Hicks, Jeff Sears, Aveena Sawyer, Christopher Swan, Alloria Frayser, Chani Maisonet, Johnny Newcomb, Jon Hoche, Jonothon Lyons, and Noel MacNeal.

Directed by Michael Mayer, the revival began preview performances on September 17, 2019, and officially opened one month later on October 17. Like many New York productions, it suspended performances in March 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic before returning to the stage on September 21, 2021.
