The Tokyo Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games announced ticket prices for all of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Events, and announced the details of registering for tickets next year.
For the 56th year, the Olympic Games will take place, and the Japanese capital will host the summer edition for the second time. The games will take place from July 24 to August 9, 2020. Tokyo’s National Stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies and athletic competitions, while the prestigious Nippon Budokan venue will host judo, Baji Koen Park for equestrian events, and the Yoyogi National Gymnasium for handball.
According to a press release, the opening ceremony tickets range from 12,000 JPY to 300,000 JPY and closing ceremony tickets are between 12,000 JPY ($108 USD) and 220,000 JPY ($1,982 USD). Sporting event tickets vary; while swimming tickets are between 3,500 JPY ($31 USD) and 108,000 JPY ($973 USD), softball and football tickets start at a mere 2,500 JPY ($22 USD). However, the starting range is around 2,500 JPY ($22 USD) and 5,800 JPY ($52 USD) for all events. View all ticket prices per sport here.
The release also states that there will be various hospitality programs, including opportunities for spectators to watch large sections of the marathon, road cycling, triathlon, and race walk competitions for free along the city streets. Additionally, a symbolic ticket price of 2,020 JPY will be available for Japan residents whose members include seniors, children, and disabled viewers, as well as students.
American guests planning to attend and looking for hotel accommodations can go through a company called CoSport, since the Olympic Games happen outside of the U.S. Tickets will go on sale more than a year in advance, likely early 2019, and can be found on the Tokyo 2020 official site. Japan residents will be able to apply for tickets via this form.
An outline of the ticket program for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will be announced this August.
